SARZANA 

 

Distance from Podere Conti: 30 min drive 

 

This renowned Italian tourist town in the foothills above La Spezia at the entrance to the valley of the Magra, the boundary between Etruria and Liguria in Roman times. Noteworthy sites include its cathedral of white marble in the Gothic style, the former citadel, re-erected by Lorenzo de' Medici and the Castle on the hill o Sarzanello.  

PIETRASANTA

Pietrasanta, Italy is a historic medieval and artistic town in northern Tuscany sometimes called the City of the Artists or Small Athens for its marble studios and monuments. It's an important center for working marble and was used as a marble source by Michelangelo.  

BARGA 

 

Distance from Podere Conti: 2 hour drive 

 

Barga is named, "The most Scottish town in Italy," after the hills and reminiscence of Scotland (additionally, there are many red telephone booths lying around Barga's streets. There is an annual international opera festival, called "Opera Barga Festival", and a long running and very successful jazz festival, "Bargajazz".. 

LUCCA

A beautiful little Tuscan town protected by massively thick 16th-century walls, featuring some of Italy's finest medieval and Renaissance architecture, superb dining, antique markets (third weekend of every month), classical and rock music festivals, easy access to stunning nearby villas in the surrounding hills.
